The Discovery Channel airs The Lost Tomb of Jesus... (I was
only able to watch a bit of this show.)
I think it is interesting that this tomb was found in 1980, and that is when
I calculated the 11th Hour to have begun. It is also interesting why this
documentary is being broadcast now, at this time in this interesting timeline
of unfolding events.
Connecting to the Holy Blood Holy Grail; the bloodline of Jesus, I wonder
if the DNA could be a key piece to this puzzle?

Picked up the Globe & Mail newspaper at the Toronto Airport on

Dylan not Pope Benedict's kind of prophet
By Oliver Moore
The times they were a-changin' -- and Cardinal Ratzinger didn't much like
it. Before he was elevated to pontiff, Benedict XVI was concerned about the
presence of Bob Dylan at a 1997 youth event hosted by then Pope John Paul
II. The counterculture hero was, he worried, the wrong kind of "prophet."
John Paul, then 77, preached that day in Bologna before hundreds of thousands
of young Italians on a theme that referred to Mr. Dylan's song Blowin' in
the Wind. The spiritual answer was "in the wind of the spirit" that would
lead them to Christ, he told the huge crowd.
The crowd also saw Mr. Dylan perform Forever Young, Knockin' on Heaven's
Door and his anti-war song A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall. After the show, he
shook hands with the Pope on stage. It was seen by some as a masterstroke
by a pontiff known for his publicity touch. But the current Pope, who was
then Cardinal Ratzinger and the Vatican's doctrinal enforcer, was
He touches on those doubts in a new book about his relationship with the
former pope. Called John Paul II, My Beloved Predecessor," it is mostly a
reflection on John Paul's personality and religious writings. "There was
reason to be skeptical -- I was, and in a certain sense I still am -- to
doubt if it was really right to let these types of prophets intervene," Pope
Benedict writes. Benedict, a lover of classical piano who cancelled the Vatican's
annual Christmas pop concert and has described the gathering of fans of music
festivals and concerts as "a kind of cult," apparently makes no mention of
the other stars at the 1997 event. He also does not explain precisely what
made Mr. Dylan's presence inappropriate.
One observer said he was not surprised at Benedict's response to Mr. Dylan's
appearance, believing the current Pope doesn't see the need to engage people
on their own terms. Ted Schmidt, a blogger on theological issues and the
former editor of the Catholic New Times, said that Benedict's approach is
shortsighted and will ultimately hurt the church. It
is crucial to speak to people in ways that they can understand, he argued,
and modern music clearly speaks to a great many people. "At least
JP was not afraid to dive into the culture. If you recall, he got himself
photographed wearing Bono's glasses, he said, recalling a meeting between
John Paul and the Irish musician.
"This guy's been in the church since he's 12 years old, he hasn't really
been a citizen of the culture," he added, referring to the current Pope.
"This guy really doesn't believe too much about blowing in the wind. He believes
that the church has most of the answers and doesn't have to go to other
Another observer took a softer line, saying that those around the Pope are
traditionally more cautious than the pontiff himself. "The adviser's function
is to point out the risk, the Pope's function is to take the risk" said Giulio
Silano, associate professor of Christianity and culture at St. Michael's
College in the University of Toronto. He recalled that that John Paul was
always willing to take risks, even as his observers counselled caution. Viewed
in that context, the current Pope's reaction is to have been expected. Also,
citing Italian papers, Mr. Silano noted that Benedict had since backpedalled
somewhat from his initial reaction to the appearance. It's a question of
prudence to [consider] how these things are read," he said. "He did have
a concern that John Paul's gesture could have been misunderstood. . . . He
thinks that Western culture took a wrong turn quite a while ago."

PROMINENCE TSUNAMI: For the third day in a row, the eastern
limb of the sun is putting on a fantastic display. "This is one of the most
beautiful prominences we've had in a while," says Greg Piepol of Rockville,
Maryland, who took this picture just hours ago:
The surging prominence reminds photographer Gary Palmer of a giant tsunami,
big enough to swallow our entire planet. Observing from a mountaintop near
Los Angeles, yesterday, he created a must-see movie of the wave in action:
